How to Upgrade Firmware of MT710

Mictrack will continue to optimize the firmware to enhance device performance and battery life. Once the new firmware is available, you can upgrade your device following the instructions in this post. To get the latest firmware, please contact us at info@mictrack.com.

Ready

Please ensure the following before upgrade the firmware:

  • The SIM Card is installed.
  • The battery is fully charged.
  • The device is powered off.

Download Upgrade Tool

  • Click HERE to download the “MT710_Upgrade_Tool_User_Guide” to your PC;
  • Extract(unzip) all the files to a single folder.

Install Upgrade Tool

  • Click on “GPS_Driver” to install the driver.
  • Click on “STM32CubeProgrammer” to install the upgrade tool

Change Pins

  • Press the SOS button for 8 seconds to power off the MT710.
  • Use a screwdriver to open the back cover of the MT710.
  • Connect the jumper cap to PIN2 and PIN3 (as following image).
  • Close the back cover of the MT710 and fasten the screws.

Connect The Cables

  • Please ensure the MT710 is POWERED OFF before proceeding with the following steps:

If the MT710 is already powered off, please ignore this step.
If not, please ensure the MT710 is powered off.

  • Connect the USB Config Cable (black) with the USB Charging Cable (white) as shown in the following image.
  • USB Config Cable connects to PC (as shown in the following image)
  • USB Charging Cable connects to MT710 (as shown in the following image)

Check Ports

To open the Device Manager, press the Windows button and type ‘device’ in the search bar.

  • Right-click on the “Windows Start” button.
  • Select “Device Manager”;
  • Click on “Ports (COM & LPT)” and identify the Port number, which should be mentioned as “Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port(COM8)”

If Insert the USB Config Cable and show “PL2303TA DO NOT SUPPORT WINDOWS 11 OR LATER PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER” please refer to this article to fix it.

Upgrade the Firmware

  • Open the STM32CubeProgrammer
  • Select UART
  • Select the Port
  • Click “Connect” button (if successful will show Connected)
  • Click “Open file” and select the MT710 firmware and then click “Download
  • Wait the upgrading and until show “File download complete”.

Change Pins Back

Once the firmware upgrade is finished, you need to change the pins back:

  • Open the back cover of MT710
  • Connect the jumper cap to PIN1 and PIN2 (as following image).
  • Close the back cover of the MT710 and fasten the screws.
  • After that you can config it with the MT710 Config Tool

FAQ

Click “Connect” on STM32CubeProgrammer but always shows an error?
1. Please make sure the MT710 is powered off first and then try again.
2. If the BLUE LED is solid, please disconnect the white cable from the MT710 until the blue LED turns off, then reconnect the white cable to the MT710, and then click the “Connect” again.
3. If it is already powered off, try charging the MT710 as the battery may be low power.
4. Check the Ports in device management to see if the port is displayed correctly.
5. Try closing the STM32CubeProgrammer and reopening it.
6. If it still does not work, please contact us for online support at info@mictrack.com.
I can’t find the port on STM32CubeProgrammer , what happens?
1. Ensure that the ‘GPS Driver’ is installed on your PC, if not pls install again.
2. If it is installed, please refer to this article to fix it.
The Ports on Device Management show “PL2303TA DO NOT SUPPORT WINDOWS 11 OR LATER PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SUPPLIER” , how to fix it?

I can’t power off the MT710?
Please disconnecte the cable on MT710 and wait for 10-20 seconds to see if the BLUE LED is OFF, if so you can try to connect
Show Error on STM32CubeProgrammer tool : Cannot open port COM8, it may be used by another application or port name is invalid, how to fix?
Please disconnect the USB cables from the PC and then reconnect the USB cable to the PC again.
